Create Your Own Data Visualization Gallery

As data visualization folks, we put a lot of effort into creating impactful and beautiful data visualizations. Some dataviz creations are so wonderful, that they should be considered a work of art. Let’s take it a step further and try our hand at displaying our work in a virtual data art gallery.
The Data Visualization Art Gallery Idea
In January, Alli Torban posted about a tool called “Mental Canvas” which enables creative spatial exploration of ideas and content. She created a virtual data visualization studio complete with a desk full of her work. In looking at the tool, the possibilities for application to data seemed endless. Since I’ve always wanted to attend a data art exhibit, I thought this would be the perfect chance to make my own virtual gallery.
The PelotonR DataViz Gallery
All data visualizations for the gallery are created in R with the data gathered from my pelotonR package. The first four data visualizations are created with code that can be found on the pelotonR package tutorial. The next two are created following an awesome tutorial called "A Peloton Data Tribute to my Wife" By Dusty Turner. The beautiful table at the end is created following a tutorial called "My Peloton Instructors", with code posted here by Tania Shapiro.
The additional images (gallery sign, intro sign etc) were created with Canva. The gallery was constructed in Mental Canvas. I selected a sample gallery scene, removed some panels, added the images and then created the animations.
