Oracle R Distribution (ORD) version 3.6.1 is now released on Oracle Linux 7 yum and Open Source Software channels. This update, code named "Action of the Toes", is a maintenance release for the R-3.6.x series, and a major update to the R Language engine since the release of Oracle R Distribution 3.4.4.
This update brings new features, user-visible changes, and bug fixes. Highlights include: improvements to random number generation, an updated serialization format, support for vectors with more than 2 billion elements on 64-bit platforms, and various speed and memory improvements. You can read the details in the release notes.
With this engine update, ORD 3.6.1 requires that R packages be compiled under ORD/R-3.6.1. To use OML4R with ORD-3.6.1, download the OML4R 1.5.1 packages compatible with ORD-3.6.1 prior to installing the OML4R components.
As with previous ORD versions, Oracle R Distribution 3.6.1 is compatible with open source R-3.6.1, and thus compatible with packages and scripts that work with R-3.6.1. ORD enables enhanced performance by taking advantage of hardware specific math library implementations, and is supported for Linux, Windows, Solaris and AIX platforms.
